In Greek mythology, Heracles, known as Hercules in Roman Mythology, is the son of Zeus and Alcmene, the daughter of the king of Mycenae. Zeus, enamored with Alcmene, approached her disguised as her husband. Hera, realizing that Heracles was Zeus's son, first tricked Zeus into swearing that the first-born of the Perseid line would rule. She then caused his cousin Eurystheus to be born prematurely, thus robbing Heracles of his right to the throne before he was even born. She continually tormented him and eventually caused his death. From the day he was born, Heracles possessed divine strength. He was only a few days old when he killed the two venomous snakes sent by Hera.
Heracles received a superior education in every aspect. His best skills were archery, horsemanship, and wrestling. When he was 18, he killed the famous monster living in the Kithairon forests. As a reward, he was given Megara, the daughter of the king of Thebes. He had three sons with her. Hera interfered, driving Heracles to madness, and Heracles killed his own wife and children. To atone for his crimes, he had to serve King Eurystheus of Mycenae and fulfill his every wish. The 12 tasks the king assigned to Heracles are known in mythology as the 12 Labours of Heracles. He is also known as a very powerful character. It is said that Heracles fathered as many as 70 children during his life on Earth. His descendants, the Heraclidae, are said to have ruled as a dynasty in Lydia for a period [1].
He also rescued Prometheus, who was chained in the Caucasus mountains, from torture, killed Cycnus and Antaeus, participated in the Trojan War, and caused the death of Paris with his poisoned arrow.
