Drag&Drop culture agenda / Beyoğlu
Yapı Kredi Culture and Arts Program
This center in Beyoğlu combines exhibition, publication, discussion, and literature programs; it opens up urban culture not only through exhibition halls but also through text and publications.
Read the exhibition with its publication
This stop in Beyoğlu offers the opportunity to combine the visual arts experience with books, archives, talks, and literature. Observing how an idea seen in the exhibition hall transforms into another form on the publication shelf makes the functioning of editorial design visible.
Examine an exhibition book not merely as a product to be purchased, but as a portable exhibition. The cover, table of contents, visual sequence, spacing, paper, and footnote structure demonstrate how the narrative in the space is translated onto the pages.
Don't consider Beyoğlu as the gap in between
After leaving the institution, look at the signs, passages, shop windows, and apartment entrances around İstiklal and Galatasaray. The graphic memory of the city continues outside the museum walls; old and new typography often appear side-by-side in the same field of view.
Choose three examples: a letterform, a material, and a color relationship. Instead of numerous random photos, this trio will turn into a small visual research set that you can use later.
Don't skip the text
Before reading the curatorial introductory text, take a look at the first room; then read the text and return to the same area. Noticing which relationships you hadn't seen before is the simplest way to understand how the text frames the exhibition.
If you're combining this route with another cultural stop on the Pera–Galatasaray–Tünel line, don't squeeze in more than two main exhibitions. The walking and note-taking time in between is the part of the day that turns into memory.
